Second Step Curriculum Permission Form
Grades TK-6
Second Step is an evidence-based, supplemental socio-emotional curriculum provided to support all Chino Valley Unified School District students in TK through 8th grade. The Second Step curriculum supports students in building social-emotional skills such as responsible decision-making, working with peers to solve problems, managing strong emotions, setting goals, and getting along with others. These skills can help students succeed academically and socially.
The Second Step curriculum is provided through teacher-delivered classroom lessons. Beginning the 2023-24 school year, these classroom lessons will be delivered by teachers through a digital platform approach districtwide. Parents/Guardians have the option to preview the Second Step curriculum. For information regarding a preview of the Second Step curriculum, parents/guardians are invited to contact their school site principal.
Parent/Guardian permission is required for students in grades transitional kindergarten through six to participate in the Second Step curriculum.
Parents/Guardians must complete and return the bottom portion of this form to their school site administrator. Excused students will be given an alternative educational activity and will not be subject to disciplinary action, academic penalty, or other sanction if their parent/guardian declines to permit the student to receive the instruction.
