A young boy wearing glasses sits on the floor of a library, surrounded by bookshelves and reading a book.
We are thrilled to announce that Mertz Middle School has been awarded a $10,000 "Reading for the Future" grant from the Smith Foundation! This generous grant will allow us to significantly expand and diversify our library collection, providing our students with access to a wider range of engaging and enriching reading materials.
"This grant is a game-changer for our library," says Principal Jones. "We've been working hard to update our collection to reflect the diverse interests and backgrounds of our students, and this funding will allow us to make that vision a reality. We'll be adding everything from popular fiction and graphic novels to non-fiction titles covering a variety of subjects, including science, history, and the arts."

The grant will also enable the library to acquire more young adult literature, addressing a demonstrated need among our middle schoolers. Librarian [Librarian's Name] is particularly excited about the opportunity to purchase books that support the school's new social justice initiative, ensuring students have access to resources that promote understanding, empathy, and critical thinking.

The Mertz Middle School Library plans to begin purchasing new materials immediately, with the goal of having them available for students to check out by next semester.

This grant will not only benefit our current students but will also leave a lasting legacy for future generations of Mertz Middle School readers. We are incredibly grateful to the Smith Foundation for their investment in our students and their commitment to fostering a love of reading.
