A heart shape is formed by a colorful assortment of small heart-shaped sprinkles on a light blue background.
It is hard to believe we are already flipping the calendar to February. As we settle into the second half of the school year, the hallways at Mertz Middle are buzzing with energy. We’ve officially moved past the "mid-year slump" and are diving deep into our core curriculum. Our students have shown incredible resilience through the winter months, and I am particularly proud of the academic growth we’ve seen in our recent mid-year assessments. It’s a joy to see our Mustangs hitting their stride, whether they are mastering new algebraic concepts or exploring historical narratives in social studies.

This month is packed with opportunities for students to connect outside of the traditional classroom. We are currently gearing up for our Winter Fine Arts Showcase and cheering on our basketball teams as they head into the final stretch of their season. We also recognize that February is Black History Month; our teachers have curated several engaging projects and guest speaker sessions to celebrate the rich contributions and history of Black Americans. These events are a vital part of the Mertz Middle experience, helping our students grow not just as scholars, but as well-rounded citizens of our community.

Finally, a quick look ahead at the calendar: please remember that the school will be closed for Presidents' Day weekend, giving everyone a well-deserved break. As the weather remains unpredictable, I encourage you to keep a close eye on our official communication channels for any weather-related updates or delays. Thank you for your continued partnership and for making Mertz Middle School such a supportive environment for our kids. Let’s make it a fantastic February!
